Portuguese international and Liverpool striker Diogo Jota and his younger brother Andre Silva have died in a devastating road accident in Spain, barely two weeks after Jota married his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso.
The 28-year-old footballer was reportedly behind the wheel of a Lamborghini when it veered off the A-52 highway near the town of Cernadilla, in Spain’s Zamora province, during the early hours of Tuesday. His younger brother, Andre, 26, who was also in the vehicle, died alongside him.
Local authorities in the Castilla and León region confirmed the vehicle caught fire after leaving the road. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the wreck engulfed in flames. Medical personnel pronounced both occupants dead on arrival.

The crash happened just days after Jota celebrated his wedding to Rute, the mother of their three children. The couple had been together since their teenage years and tied the knot in Porto, Portugal, in a ceremony he described in an interview as the happiest moment of his life.
Photos from their wedding had circulated online only days before the tragedy, showing the couple beaming with their kids—images that now stand in painful contrast to the grief that has followed.
