The Labour Party (LP) has decried the recent ruling of the Abuja High Court regarding Governor Peter Mbah’s NYSC certificate forgery case. The Party through its publicity secretary, Obiora Ifoh asserted that Justice Inyang Ekwo’s decision is a deviation from established norms, potentially undermining the nation’s judiciary.
The court not only levied a N5 million fine against NYSC but also ordered it to affirm the authenticity of Mbah’s contested certificate. Critics argue that Justice Ekwo overlooked vital evidence, including a prior case before the Court of Appeal in Lagos on the same matter.
The ruling has drawn scrutiny for disregarding discrepancies in coding and font on Mbah’s certificate compared to legitimate ones from his claimed graduation year. LP points to Mbah’s earlier attempts to prevent NYSC from disavowing the certificate during tribunal proceedings, a move thwarted by an Abuja Appeal Court order.

This decision, according to the Labour Party, jeopardizes the credibility of NYSC, a federal institution, and raises concerns about the broader implications for Enugu’s electorate. They call on the Judiciary to uphold the people’s will, echoing their resounding vote on March 8, 2023.
