Anambra Guber: LP’s George Moghalu Rejects Results, Cites Widespread Vote-Buying and Underage Voting

George Moghalu, Labour Party (LP) candidate in the November 8, 2025 Anambra governorship election, has rejected the results, citing irregularities.

Speaking at his Nnewi office on Sunday, Moghalu said the election was “marred by widespread vote buying and reports of underage voting in some areas.”

“The November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, in my view, fell short of expectations. I hereby reject it in its entirety. I have contested in previous elections, but this one was different. The level of vote buying was alarming,” he added.

Moghalu also claimed that minors were openly seen with voter cards and allowed to vote.

“Children who were not supposed to be carrying voter cards were openly seen with them and allowed to vote,” he said.

He raised further concerns about the ballot papers. “In some polling units, the LP name appeared without the party’s logo, making it difficult for voters to identify our position on the ballot,” Moghalu noted.

The LP candidate said a detailed statement would follow after reviewing reports from his agents across the state. “Once I get the full report of the election, we will analyse it and then determine our next course of action. But one thing is clear: I reject the result,” he said.

Addressing reports that some LP agents were absent from polling units, Moghalu suggested frustration over observed irregularities may have prompted them to leave early.

He stressed that he does not plan to challenge the outcome in court immediately, saying it would be premature without reviewing all reports.

Earlier today, Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was declared the winner by the Returning Officer, Prof. Edoba Omoregie.

Soludo polled 422,664 votes, defeating All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Nicholas Ukachukwu, who scored 99,445 votes, Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate Paul Chukwuma with 37,753 votes, and George Moghalu, who came fourth with 10,576 votes.
