Former Senator Darlington Nwokocha, who represented Abia Central district on the Labour Party (LP) platform, has voiced his continued surprise and disappointment regarding the Appeal Court’s decision to sack him from office.
The court declared Col Austin Akobundu (Rtd) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the rightful winner of the Abia Central contest on November 4, two months after Nwokocha’s initial election.
Despite He’s wide acceptance and popularity among the people of Abia Central, he expressed disbelief in a live radio interview on Family Love 99.9 FM Umuahia.
He also expressed surprise that the Appeal Court refused to reverse itself on his case despite the “evidences” he presented to the judges.

Nwokocha mentioned that the legal points used in the Appeal Court’s decision were “inconsistent with legal proceedings” and should not have been applied in his case.
“I am still surprised that somebody can make such a judgement. I am still surprised till now”, Nwokocha lamented.
His attempts to present additional evidence and seek a reversal of the decision were unsuccessful, leaving Nwokocha questioning the judgment. He also revealed that the Supreme Court rejected his hope of reinstatement, directing that his matter should conclude in the Appeal Court.
Nwokocha, who recently received support from his constituents, stated that he has resigned everything to God.
Despite the setback, he commended the political rapport between Governor Alex Otti and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Benjamin Kalu, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between LP and APC figures for the development of Abia State.
