In a recent interview, Mrs. Oluchi Opara, the National Treasurer of the Labour Party, voiced her concerns over her six-month suspension from the party and alleged corruption by the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure.
Opara disputed the justification of her suspension, claiming it was an attempt to divert attention from the corruption allegations against Abure. She urged Abure to address the allegations directly instead of resorting to suspensions.
Addressing rumors of Abure’s attempt to suspend Peter Obi, Opara highlighted the ongoing tension within the party, with the party national chairman allegedly using state chairmen to intimidate dissenters.
Regarding allegations of financial mismanagement, Opara accused him of sidelining her in financial matters and failing to account for funds raised during the 2023 general elections.
Opara also criticized the handling of donations received during Peter Obi’s campaign tour in the United States, alleging mismanagement of funds by the party national chairman.
Despite her suspension, Opara expressed her commitment to seeking justice through legal channels, including suing the EFCC to investigate Abure and his associates.
Responding to claims of non-cooperation with the party‘s NWC, Opara refuted the accusations, providing evidence of her attempts to engage in conflict resolution.
Concerning the defection of party members in Edo State to the APC, Opara attributed it to Abure’s poor leadership and warned of further repercussions if he remains in power.
On the recent arrest of Abure by armed policemen, Opara commented on the growing discontent against him within the party and the public.
Finally, Opara called on the Federal Government to address the economic hardship facing Nigerians, urging the FG to reconsider policies exacerbating the situation.
