Maersk Imposes $150 Per TEU ‘Peak Season Surcharge’ on Nigeria-Bound Containers

Maersk, a leading container shipping line, has recently implemented a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) affecting shipments to Nigeria from China, Japan, Taiwan, and other Asian nations.

The surcharge, set at US$150 per twenty equivalent unit (TEU) container and US$300 per forty equivalent unit (FEU) container, came into effect on January 8.

This new PSS is not exclusive to Nigeria, as Maersk has introduced similar peak-season surcharges for various countries.

Notably, the surcharge also applies to cargo originating from Brunei, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, South Korea, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and East Timor destined for Nigeria.
