Maldives Energy Minister Arrested for Allegedly Trying Black Magic On President

The state minister for environment, climate change and energy, Fatimath Shamnaz Ali, has been arrested in the capital city of Male, for allegedly trying “black magic” on Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

Fathimath Shamnaz Ali Saleem was taken into custody on Sunday, along with two others, according to a police report released on Thursday, according to India Today.

The arrested Shamnaz is a mother of three children, including an infant.

Officers raided Shamnaz’s house and recovered items believed to be used for sorcery.

Local media reports also indicated that the two men arrested along with Shamnas are her siblings.

Although black magic is not a crime in the Maldives, it is punishable by six months in prison under Islamic law. Sorcery is widely practised in the Maldives to win favours and curse opponents.
