Man Arrested for Impersonating NSCDC Officer in Ogun State

A man has been arrested for impersonating a deserted officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ogun State.

The suspect, 38-year-old Sunday Samuel, was arraigned before an Abeokuta Magistrate Court.

The arrest took place on Friday, November 3, 2023, during a nationwide biometric verification exercise for NSCDC officers.

Samuel was apprehended at the NSCDC command premises where the exercise was being conducted.

The impersonation was discovered when the computer system failed to verify Samuel’s identity during the biometric process.

Upon questioning, Samuel was unable to provide correct answers about the data of the person he was impersonating.

Following his confession, an investigation was launched. However, Samuel revealed the name of the officer he was impersonating and provided the officer’s IPPIS number.

Despite initially being granted administrative bail, Samuel was rearrested on November 21, 2023, for prosecution. He was charged with impersonating a public official at an Abeokuta Magistrate Court.

Despite pleading not guilty, Samuel was remanded in a correctional facility pending the perfection of his bail condition.

His bail was set at N50,000 with a surety in like sum. The case has been adjourned until December 8, 2023, for the commencement of the hearing.
