An unidentified individual was fatally electrocuted while tampering with electrical equipment on the Mowe 33KV feeder, located at Ashipa village along the Abeokuta/Sagamu expressway.
The incident occurred on Monday and was confirmed by Mr. Abdulrazaq Jimoh, the Regional Head of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), in a statement to the press on Wednesday.
According to Mr. Jimoh, IBEDC personnel had observed an anomaly in the Mowe 33KV feeder’s phase on Sunday.
This prompted the dispatch of an engineering team to investigate potential faults along the network.
Their search led to the discovery of a severed blue-phase wire at Ashipa village.
Upon closer inspection, the engineers were met with a grim scene: the lifeless body of the suspected vandal lay near the location where the wire had been cut.
“It appears the individual succumbed to electrocution during a second attempt to sever the blue-phase high-tension conductor,” Mr. Jimoh explained.

The incident was promptly reported to the Owode Egba Divisional Police Station.
The preliminary investigation at the site revealed the deceased’s belongings, including shoes, pliers, a cutlass, and other tools likely used in the attempted theft.
Law enforcement officials have since transported the body to the mortuary for further examination.
In light of this event, Mr. Jimoh has issued a plea to the public, urging vigilance and the safeguarding of IBEDC’s infrastructure.
He emphasized that this marks the third such occurrence in the area, highlighting the need for increased support from security agencies to ensure the protection of the company’s installations throughout the region. #Electrocuted
