A 54-year-old man, Jegede Folorunsho, has been accused of defiling an eight-year-old girl in Mushin, a neighborhood in Lagos.

He was arraigned before Magistrate O.M. Ajayi of the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court on Monday.

The police prosecutor, Paul Ugorji, told the court that Folorunsho committed the offense on October 4, 2023, at No 4 Adegbite Lane, Mushin. He said the defendant had carnal knowledge of the girl, whose name was withheld, without her consent.

Ugorji said the offense contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribes life imprisonment for defilement of a minor.

The defendant, however, did not plead to the charge.
