A 2014 tweet from Bola Tinubu, in which he declared that persistent Boko Haram killings and the massacre of innocent citizens were “concrete proof that Nigeria has no government,” has resurfaced, sparking widespread outrage and criticism of his current administration’s performance on security.
The old post, originally made on September 9, 2014, read: “The festering Boko Haram attacks on the Northeast and massacre of innocent citizens is concrete proof that Nigeria has no government.”
The statement, which targeted former president Goodluck Jonathan’s government at the time, was reposted on Saturday by Arise TV anchor Oseni Rufai as a flashback but has since gone viral and drawn heavy backlash from Nigerians who now accuse Tinubu of presiding over an equally or even more insecure nation.
Online reactions were swift and pointed. @EmekaNkwuaku wrote, “In the same vein, Nigeria has no government under Tinubu. Anything to the contrary is double standards and hypocrisy. Security is his primary responsibility. His failure in it makes him unfit to continue to govern.”
Another user, @seedurf1986, questioned the president’s own ability to deliver on the issues he once condemned: “Has he been able to solve the same insecurity issue that he was criticising Jonathan about? Nigerian politicians always have robust ideas and solutions when they are outside govt, but immediately they get to govt their ideas vanish.”

Referencing the political history, @ETipaiga stated, “Even if APC does 20 years at the center, if the government leader is anyone who has a strong hand in removing GEJ with lies and propaganda, their tenure will amount to nothing. We have seen 8 years of PMB and now two years of BAT…”
Some reactions took a more sarcastic tone.
“The fossil foresaw the future for himself,” @CroBender posted.
Another user, @Balatic, said, “Exactly! Truer now than then. We now have a junta filled with hardened criminals and reprobates!”
@ApexHodde concluded, “It is therefore accurate to deduce that Nigeria currently has no government.”
The tweet’s resurgence comes at a time of heightened security concerns across the country, including rising attacks in Benue, Zamfara, and the Northeast. Over 17,000 insecurity-related deaths have been reported since Tinubu assumed office, according to recent security assessments.
