The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, Ferdinand Ekeoma, has raised concerns over the activities of metal thieves who have vandalised government property, including public schools.

Ekeoma raised concerns about the activities of these scavengers, known locally as Ndi Akpakara, who also removed manhole covers on the newly built Aguiyi Ironsi Boulevard in Umuahia.

These thefts pose significant risks to the safety of pedestrians, as open manholes have led to injuries and fatalities in the past.

He stated, “The present government is working assiduously to rebuild our public schools and get them equipped with the necessary gadgets and materials, and therefore will not allow those driven by such an ungodly quest for money to sabotage the government’s vision and plans to rebuild Abia’s broken infrastructure and ensure that public schools in Abia become conducive citadels of learning for all.”
