Mob Attempts to Breach Incirlik Airbase In Turkey, Home to US Military Personnel, Nuclear Arsenal

A massive protest erupted on Sunday at Incirlik Airbase, situated in the southern-central Turkish city of Adana.

Hundreds of individuals were observed hurling chairs, stones, and various objects at riot police while assaulting barricades.

The protest coincided with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s announcement that communication with Benjamin Netanyahu had been severed and talks were now exclusively conducted between the Turkish intelligence chief, foreign minister, and their Israeli counterparts.

The protest was orchestrated by the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, a Turkish Islamist aid organization.

Incirlik Airbase has served as a strategic outpost for coalition and NATO forces in the Middle East to combat terrorism. Additionally, the base has gained notoriety for its storage of American nuclear weaponry in Turkey since the 1950s.

President Bulent Yildirim of the IHH addressed the crowds in Adana and implored them not to attack the police.

He stated, “Friends, resorting to rock-throwing or similar acts is not the way forward because both the police and soldiers aspire to head to Gaza and partake in the fight when the time comes. Our anger is profound, but Turkey is doing all it can,” he added. The rally was prematurely disbanded due to confrontations with the police to prevent further escalations.

Türkiye is expected to carry on with both diplomatic and logistical support for Palestinians in Gaza as fighting ranges on in the besieged city.
