The controversy surrounding the untimely demise of Nigerian artist Ilerioluwa Aloba, famously known as Mohbad, continues as Lagos State awaits the outcome of a coroner’s inquest demanded by the state government.
During the inquiry held at the Ikorodu magistrates’ court since October 13, 2023, Richard Somiari, the director of Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, assured on Wednesday that the autopsy results would be available within three to four weeks.
“We expected to get the first set of autopsy results in three to four weeks and re-confirm to authenticate the cause of death,” Somiari informed the coroner, Adedayo Shotobi.
The forensic expert highlighted the thoroughness of the investigation, stating, “We searched for multiple possibilities, to check if poison was involved in the death of Mohbad since no actual cause was mentioned.”
Emphasizing the security and monitoring of samples for the autopsy, Somiari added, “We have a place where items are stored for safety and security of results. There is a procedure for monitoring samples moved abroad.”
In the course of the inquest, defense attorneys cross-examined witnesses, including Sadiq “Spending” Ayobami, who testified to being the last person to see the deceased alive.

Ayobami recounted their activities preceding Mohbad’s demise, stating, “I last saw the deceased a day before his passing. After attending a concert in Ikorodu together, I went home before Mohbad passed away.”
Addressing another aspect of the inquiry, Abiodun Kolawole, an activist representing the African Women Lawyers Association, advised Mohbad’s parents regarding the paternity of the singer’s child. Kolawole suggested resolving the matter through legal channels rather than resorting to social media.
The coroner, Adedayo Shotobi, postponed further proceedings until April 15, ordering all involved parties to be present.
