The Maiduguri-Damboa highway is a vital connection between Southern Borno and the state capital.

Many residents have urgently called on the federal and state governments to address the situation, voicing concerns that the collapse of the bridge will significantly impact their ability to transport produce to markets outside the area.

This follows severe flooding in Maiduguri just weeks ago, which affected over 40,000 people, claimed 37 lives, and left 58 others injured.

The disaster was triggered by the overflow of the Alau Dam, which sent floodwaters from 10 kilometers away into Maiduguri after the dam’s collapse.

Earlier in September, another major bridge connecting the central part of Maiduguri to the south-eastern axis of the city, including the University of Maiduguri and its teaching hospital, collapsed two days after the flooding.
