Following Donald Trump’s election victory, Fox News has enjoyed a significant boost in audience numbers, while its competitors are grappling with steep losses, according to Nielsen data.

From the day after the election to the present, Fox News’ total day viewership has jumped 41%, now averaging 2.001 million viewers. In contrast, MSNBC has seen a 38% drop in total day viewers, averaging 521,000, while CNN has declined by 27%, averaging 367,000 viewers.

The primetime ratings tell a similar story. Fox News has surged 34% in primetime, drawing an average of 3.157 million viewers. Meanwhile, MSNBC’s primetime audience has plummeted 48% to 691,000, and CNN’s has dropped 35% to 470,000 viewers.

In the critical cable news demographic of adults aged 25-54, Fox News has seen a 46% increase in primetime viewership and a 49% rise in total day ratings.

MSNBC’s demo ratings fell 53% in primetime and 41% in total day, while CNN saw drops of 35% and 26%, respectively.

Fox News now commands 73% of the overall primetime cable news audience and 71% of the key demo, leaving MSNBC with 16% and CNN with just 11% of the total audience.

MSNBC’s flagship morning show, Morning Joe, has faced particularly steep losses. After hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski disclosed a meeting with Trump earlier this week, the show has experienced a day-by-day decline in viewership.

Wednesday’s episode drew 647,000 total viewers—a 43% drop from the program’s Q3 average—and just 51,000 viewers in the key demo, marking its lowest performance since 2021.

The declines for Morning Joe have been consistent throughout the week. Monday’s episode averaged 770,000 total viewers but suffered an hour-by-hour drop-off. Tuesday’s audience slipped to 680,000, and by Wednesday, it had decreased further to 647,000.
