JUST IN: Muhammadu Buhari Finally Laid to Rest in Daura

Former President Muhammadu Buhari was laid to rest on Monday at his residence in Daura, Katsina State, following funeral rites attended by thousands of mourners.

Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima led the Nigerian delegation, joined by Chadian President Mahamat Déby, Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embaló, and Niger Republic’s Prime Minister Ali Mahamane.

Also present were Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, several serving and former governors, ministers—past and present—and other high-ranking dignitaries.

The funeral prayer, held at the helipad area of the former President’s hometown, was led by the Chief Imam of Daura, Sheikh Salisu Rabiu.

Buhari’s remains arrived in Katsina at about 2:00 p.m. and were conveyed by road to Daura at around 3:40 p.m. A gun salute in his honour was fired between 5:32 p.m. and 5:35 p.m., before he was finally laid to rest at approximately 6:00 p.m.

Former President Buhari passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in a hospital in London.
