MultiChoice Group, the parent company of DStv and GOtv, has successfully acquired the broadcasting rights for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2024.
A reliable source within the broadcast giant confirmed to TheCable that all 52 games of the tournament, scheduled to commence this Saturday, will be aired on SuperSports channels.
Contrary to initial reports suggesting unsuccessful negotiations for exclusive rights, the source revealed that MultiChoice clinched the rights under a “non-exclusive” arrangement.
The breakthrough follows weeks of uncertainty after MultiChoice initially disclosed its inability to secure broadcasting rights for AFCON.
Renowned football writer Osasu Obayiuwana further confirmed the news on X, stating, “For @DStv @MultiChoice @SuperSportTV subscribers: A source from within the organisation tells me that they are going to broadcast the @CAF_Online #TotalEnergieAFCON2023 afterall.
“They are expected to make a formal announcement at some point on Wednesday. Let’s see what they say.”
