Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has firmly stated that he stands by his criticism of Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies and has no regrets.
Governor Mohammed, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had earlier criticized Tinubu’s policies following the #EndBadGovernance protest, accusing Tinubu of implementing measures that cause hardship for the populace.
During a State Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Bauchi on Wednesday, Mohammed emphasized that, as a leader with national responsibilities, he feels compelled to address issues that could potentially stir controversy.
He clarified that his intention was not to offend or hurt anyone but to provide an honest assessment of the situation.
He emphasized that the recent protests should serve as a wake-up call, not just for the presidency but for all levels of government.
“All of us here, as leaders—members of councils, commissioners representing local governments—are aware of the situation on the ground. You represent the people here. It’s crucial that we listen when Nigerians raise their voices against poor governance, especially in areas where expectations have not been met,” he said.
The governor noted that unfavourable national policies, coupled with global economic challenges, have exacerbated the hardships faced by the people.
Nonetheless, he insisted that his criticism was constructive, aimed at benefiting the president, the government, and the citizens of Nigeria.
“Whoever made harsh or critical remarks about me must understand that it’s the cost of leadership, and I have no apology for that. My comments were not meant to cause disaffection or insult anyone. This isn’t about partisan politics—it’s about responsibility,” he concluded.
The governor assured that his administration would persist in implementing policies and programs designed to enhance the lives of the people, despite the challenges and limited resources.
