Fraud case: A Kano High Court has granted bail to Bala Muhammad, former Managing Director of Kano Agricultural Supply Company, and his son, Bala Jr.
The pair are currently facing trial for the alleged diversion of N4 billion in state funds.
The defendants were arraigned before Justice Hafsat Sani following an investigation by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission.
The charges against them include criminal breach of trust, making false statements or returns, and official corruption. After pleading not guilty to all charges, Muhammad was remanded in custody on November 2, 2023.
During the court hearing on Thursday, Justice Sani set the bail conditions.
Two sureties must swear to an affidavit of means, demonstrating gainful employment or engagement.
They must support the affidavit with documents showing an ongoing registered business, office address, and residential address.

The sureties are also required to present tax documents covering the last three years, which must be verified by the court registrar.
A police officer attached to the court must submit an affidavit confirming all information provided by the sureties.
Moreover, Muhammad must obtain a letter of identification from a responsible Nigerian citizen who works or does business within the court’s jurisdiction.
All sureties must reside in the Kano metropolis.
The main suit hearing is scheduled to commence on December 6, 2023.
