The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken swift action by conducting a raid on a suspected counterfeit drinks production facility in Abia State.

The decisive move follows the circulation of a viral photo on social media depicting questionable manufacturing practices at the said factory.

In response to the alarming image, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control initiated a prompt investigation, leading to a targeted operation aimed at addressing the reported production of adulterated beverages within the state.

The agency’s intensified efforts to combat the production and distribution of fake consumables, particularly beverages, revealed several facilities engaged in illicit production during the operation.

In collaboration with security agencies, NAFDAC uncovered clandestine setups counterfeiting popular brands of wines, soft drinks, and other consumables.

The seized facilities were found to be operating in unhygienic conditions, utilizing questionable ingredients, recycled bottles, and cloned packaging materials, raising serious concerns about the safety and authenticity of the products.

As part of the operation, NAFDAC took decisive action by destroying a substantial quantity of the confiscated fake and substandard products, estimated at a significant monetary value.

Multiple individuals associated with these illegal operations were apprehended and will undergo thorough investigations, facing subsequent legal actions.

NAFDAC, in response to these developments, encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities related to the production or distribution of counterfeit goods to the nearest NAFDAC office.
