Founder of Nairaland, the popular micro-blogging site, Seun Osewa reveals the platform’s server has been forcibly taken down by its host.
Osewa admitted the server disruption stemmed from his inadvertent oversight of an abuse report sent on the 14th. He disclosed, “Nairaland’s server was taken down because I overlooked an abuse report.”
Despite removing the content, Osewa encountered delays in restoring the server due to UI issues.
Minutes after successfully bringing the forum back online, it faced another abrupt takedown without warning. Osewa speculates that cached content on Cloudflare servers might be the culprit, stating, “I’m guessing that the content I removed was still cached on Cloudflare servers.”

Addressing the frustrating situation, Osewa sought community input, sharing, “If you have any ideas for working with abuse teams, please share. My track record is abysmal.”
Osewa conveyed the extended wait ahead, explaining, “The technical support team has informed me that only the abuse team has the power to reinstate our server, that their review could take up to 48 hours, and that nothing can be done to speed up the process.”
