Hunger: Tragedy Strikes Nasarawa State University as Two Students Die, Many Injured in “Rice Stampede”

In a heart-wrenching turn of events at Nasarawa State University (NSU), tragedy struck as two students lost their lives and several others sustained injuries during a chaotic “rice stampede” on campus.

The incident occurred following a decision by Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, to distribute rice to the university students.

Anticipation filled the air as barricades were erected around the venue, with students eagerly awaiting the governor’s opening speech.

However, hunger and impatience prevailed among the crowd, leading to the breaking of barriers and a scramble for the rice distribution.

With no organized system in place, chaos ensued as students jostled and pushed to secure their share of the rice. Amid the commotion, tragically, two students lost their lives, while several others suffered injuries in the stampede.

Compounding the dire situation, the university’s hospital, which would typically provide medical assistance in such emergencies, is currently on strike due to unpaid salaries. As a result, injured students found themselves without immediate medical attention.
