Gates leading to the National Assembly Complex in Abuja have been shut down by parliamentary workers, marking their solidarity with the ongoing nationwide protests organized by labor unions.
Despite a court order restraining the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress from commencing a nationwide indefinite strike starting Tuesday, the unions proceeded with their plans, which have now garnered support from parliamentary employees.
The genesis of this unrest can be traced back to an incident on November 1, 2023, in Imo State, where Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, was allegedly assaulted. This led to the issuance of a nationwide strike notice by the unions last week.

As of 12:23 p.m. on Tuesday, when Daily Post reporters visited the National Assembly complex, all entry points were securely locked, leaving numerous workers stranded at the entrance.
Notably, despite the lockdown, plenary sessions were reported to be ongoing in the House of Representatives, creating a dynamic juxtaposition between the closed gates and the legislative activities within.
