The Nigerian Navy ship, NNS BEECROFT, has made a huge drug bust at Eleko Beach in the Lekki area of Lagos, confiscating cannabis sativa worth over N254 million.

The operation took place on Sunday, November 19, 2023, as part of the Navy’s efforts to curb the illegal activities of drug traffickers in the state’s coastal areas.

The commander of NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Kolawole Olumide Oguntuga, told reporters that Eleko Beach was becoming a notorious hub for drug smuggling, as this was the second major seizure of cannabis in the area in six months.

He recalled that in May 2023, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) had intercepted 8,852 kilograms of cannabis sativa at Eleko Road in the Lekki area of Lagos, after a fierce gun battle with the suspects.
