NDLEA Arrests Drug traffickers, Seizes Cannabis, Tramadol, Others in Nationwide Raids

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested several drug traffickers and seized large quantities of illicit substances, including cannabis, tramadol, rohypnol and skuchies, in nationwide operations in the past week.

According to a statement by the NDLEA spokesperson, the agency intercepted a consignment of Canadian Loud, an imported synthetic strain of cannabis, weighing 111.2kg in Lagos Island on Friday night.

The suspect, Taofeek Yusuf, 42, was arrested while driving an unregistered vehicle loaded with 324 bags of the substance.

The statement also said that another suspect, Godwin ThankGod, was nabbed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Thursday while attempting to board a flight to Milan, Italy, with five cartons of codeine syrup and 300 tablets of rohypnol hidden in his luggage.

The NDLEA also recovered 30,000 packs of tramadol 225mg, consisting 300,000 pills, from a consignment that arrived from Karachi, Pakistan, on KLM Royal Dutch Airline at the SAHCO import shed of the airport on Friday.

The agency also intercepted two parcels of tramadol and rohypnol concealed in spices and sports shoes destined for Oman and the United Kingdom at two courier firms in Lagos on Tuesday.

In Oyo state, the NDLEA raided a clandestine skuchies factory in Moniya area of Ibadan on Thursday and arrested the operator, Oyadeji Dimeji, 28. The agency seized 76.6kg of cannabis, 134 grams of tramadol, 93 grams of rohypnol and 50 litres of skuchies, a liquid mixture containing various types of psychoactive substances, from the factory.

In Ondo state, the NDLEA arrested four suspects and seized 524.5kg of cannabis and a Dane gun from a hotel in Igoba, Akure North LGA, on Friday. Another suspect was also arrested with 293.5kg of cannabis at Ala forest in Akure North LGA on the same day.In Edo state, the NDLEA arrested a 67-year-old man, Franklin Eze, with 454 blocks of cannabis weighing 311kg in his Lexus car at Otuo, Owan East LGA, on Thursday.

In Kogi state, the NDLEA arrested Abdullahi Shuaibu, 43, with 43 blocks of cannabis weighing 22kg and three pinches of methamphetamine at Ayangba, Dekina LGA, on Tuesday.In Katsina state, the NDLEA arrested Danladi Adamu, 24, with 25.5kg of cannabis during a buy and bust operation at Kurmi Primary School in Malumfashi metropolis on Wednesday.

In Gombe state, the NDLEA arrested Sulaiman Mohammed with 47 blocks of cannabis weighing 30kg concealed in two sacks of groundnut at Lapandimtai, Kaltungo, on Wednesday.

The NDLEA also said that it continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaign in schools, markets, worship places and other places across the country in the past week. Some of the places where the campaign was held include Unity High School Senior, Abeokuta, Ogun state; King George College, Imeke, Badagry Lagos; and Yusuf Bala Usman College of Legal Studies, Daura.
