NDLEA Confiscates N125.71m Worth of Illicit Drugs in Abuja

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reported the interception of 7,345.209 kilograms of illicit drugs and substances valued at N125.71 million in the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking to journalists on Sunday in Abuja, Mr. Kabir Tsakuwa, the NDLEA Commander in the territory, disclosed that the illicit drugs were intercepted in 2023. Tsakuwa listed various drugs intercepted, including Marijuana, Cocaine, Diazepam, Methamphetamine, Rohypnol, Tramadol, Pentazocine, Heroin, Megadon, and Ecstasy, among others.

Detailing the seizures, Tsakuwa revealed that operatives intercepted a total of 7,138.72kg of marijuana during the period. Additionally, other drugs seized in 2023 included 0.5kg of Cocaine; 29.629kg of Diazepam; 4.587kg of Methamphetamine; 5.934kg of Rohypnol, and 133.753kg of Tramadol.

Further breakdowns showed Pentazocine weighing 21.727kg; Heroin, 0.002kg; Megadon, 0.263kg, and Ecstasy, 0.134kg. The total street value of all intercepted drugs and substances amounted to N125,714,620 million.

“All the illicit drugs and substances intercepted were with the street value of N125, 714, 620 million,” he said.

During the period, 640 suspects, comprising 614 males and 26 females, were arrested. Out of these, 295 were charged to court, with 201 convictions recorded. Meanwhile, 264 cases are pending in the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Regarding rehabilitation efforts, Tsakuwa noted that 175 drug users received counseling and assistance for reintegration into society. Of these, 172 were males and three were females.
