NDLEA Detainee Seeks N100m Compensation, Freedom

A man who has been detained by the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) since October 5, without trial, has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Lagos, seeking his release and N100 million damages.

The plaintiff, Mr. Obiora Samuel, of FESTAC Town, Lagos, claimed that his arrest and detention by the NDLEA was unlawful, unconstitutional, null and void.

He also asked the court to declare that the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency violated his fundamental right to freedom.

His counsel, Benson Ndakara, urged the court to hear the motion on Wednesday, saying that the NDLEA had been served for over a month and had failed to file a counter-affidavit.

However, the counsel, Juliana Imaobong Uroabuchi, asked for more time to respond, citing her aged mother’s illness as the reason for the delay.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo adjourned the case till December 1, 2023, for definite hearing.
