In the past week, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recovered around four tonnes of illegal drugs across the country.
Recently, an individual named Obiorah Chigozie Samuel, who was attempting to ship illegal drug consignments to the UK, was apprehended.
Obiorah Chigozie Samuel has been on the agency’s wanted list since September 15, 2023, when a shipment of 1,500 kg of skunk concealed in flour and headed for London, UK, was stopped at the Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) export shed of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, MMIA Ikeja Lagos.
Mr. Obiorah, who was formerly into shoe sales, thought that the 1,500kg shipment had been successfully delivered when he entered the dragnet of the agency on Sept. 28, personally delivering a second shipment of 2,000kg concealed in cartons to the airport for shipment to the UK.
In addition to Obiora’s situation, the NDLEA also reported that several regions across the country have witnessed seizures of similar substances by NDLEA officers. 432 kg of illegal substances were seized in Bayelsa on Wednesday from an abandoned bus along Saipem Road, Opolo, Yenogoa.
Also, operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Agency intercepted a truck that was coming from Lagos to Kano at the Gwagwalada area on Friday, September 29. Another 1,188 kg of skunk hidden in cartons of tooth paste were reportedly recovered in Owo, Ondo State.
NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, on Sunday in Abuja, commended the officers and men of the MMIA, Lagos, FCT, and other area commands of the agency across the country for the arrests and seizures of the past week.
