In its crusade against drug trafficking, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended two wanted drug barons, as well as two others who consumed 175 heroin wraps.
Hakeem Babatunde Salami and Okafor Ikechukwu Williams, the two drug lords who have been detained, were apprehended following weeks of operations across Nigeria and abroad that were intelligence-driven.
Salami, the leader of the “Tajudeen Babatunde Abioye Transnational Criminal Organisation”, was involved in the illegal trade of a number of drugs, including cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and ephedrine, between Nigeria, Brazil, Ghana, South Africa, Mozambique, and Europe.
Following the arrest of a syndicate member at the Lagos airport on August 25, Salami left Nigeria for South Africa.
He was eventually discovered, thanks to a collaboration between South African authorities and other intelligence and sleuthing agencies.
When NDLEA agents raided Williams and his wife’s hideout in Lagos, they found 27.566 kilogrammes of methamphetamine hidden in a blue box and two sacks.
Williams and his wife, Okafor Ifeyinwa Grace, were both arrested at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The agency also intercepted cargos of cocaine and heroin hidden inside the stomachs of two traffickers travelling to Paris, France, and Doha, Qatar.
