The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced its commitment to combating the proliferation and use of illicit drugs not only in Ogun State but throughout the nation.
According to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, this declaration was made on Thursday in Ogun. Babafemi stated that the agency intends to broaden its efforts to curb the supply and consumption of illicit drugs by extending its campaign to all villages within Ogun State.
Mr. Babafemi emphasized that this initiative aims to raise awareness among residents about the various types of illicit drugs, their usage, as well as the associated consequences, prevention methods, treatment options, and care.

“As part of efforts to ensure the drug war hits the objectives, the agency has upgraded its forensic laboratories across the country to enhance investigations and treatments,” added the NDLEA spokesman.
Mr. Babafemi emphasized that the anti-narcotic agency is determined to dismantle the influence of drug barons and sever Nigeria’s ties to the international drug trafficking network.
“The agency will always record a strong performance every week. The agency boasts itself of intercepting largest heroine consignment of 51.90 kilograms recently in a 12-day well-coordinated operation in Lagos, which started on February 10.
“This led to freezing of 107 bank accounts associated with 14 members of the heroin cartel, and over N119 million found in some of the already traced bank accounts,” he said.
The director highlighted that the recent heroin seizure sends a powerful message to drug traffickers both locally and nationally, serving as a stern warning against their illicit activities.
“However, if they fail to desist from illicit drug trade, the long arm of the law will catch up with them,” he stressed.
