“It’s Selective Justice” — Netizen Accuses Tinubu Government of Persecuting Emefiele While Kyari Walks Free

An economist and political commentator, Kelvin Emmanuel, has raised serious concerns over what he describes as a troubling pattern of selective justice under Tinubu’s administration, pointing to the disparity in how the government has handled the prosecution of former Central Bank governor Godwin Emefiele compared to his unnamed counterpart in the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC).

In a post on his official X account (@realkelvin07) on Sunday, Kelvin questioned why Emefiele could be thoroughly prosecuted, publicly vilified, and stripped of his assets, while “his counterpart in NNPC (where his problems started from)” remains untouched and “immune to prosecution because of where he comes from.”

Kelvin stated, “It’s this selective justice that protects people because of their kinsmen and economic associates that has made Nigerians to lose faith in the rule of law.”

He argued that a country cannot make meaningful progress when legal processes are applied unevenly or influenced by tribal affiliations and political loyalties.

“A nation can never prosper without rule of law — never! It’s not a curse and good governance is not rocket science — ignore people telling you it is,” he added.

The post has since generated significant reactions, with many echoing concerns about ethnic favouritism and political shielding of allies within Tinubu’s government. Critics say this trend is part of a broader erosion of democratic accountability and public confidence in Nigeria’s justice system.

While Emefiele continues to face multiple legal battles and asset seizures, the lack of comparable scrutiny or action against high-ranking figures in other agencies like the NNPC raises questions about the sincerity of Tinubu’s anti-corruption efforts.
