Netizen Recalls Wike’s Unresolved N118 Billion Fraud Case With EFCC During His First Tenure in 2015

A resurfaced fraud allegation involving Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under Tinubu’s administration, has reignited public outcry over corruption and impunity at the highest levels of government.

Obiasogu David (@afrisagacity) on Monday reminded Nigerians of the unresolved N118 billion fraud case linked to Wike during his first tenure as governor of Rivers State in 2015.

“Reminder! Nyesom Wike, Tinubu’s Minister for the FCT, has an unresolved N118 billion fraud allegation (case) with the EFCC. It was in Wike’s first tenure as Rivers governor, in 2015. His govt allegedly withdrew the money in cash, from the state account, using over 50 cheques.”

Attached to David’s post was a front-page screenshot from Daily Trust with the headline: “EFCC stings Wike over alleged N117B fraud.”

The post quickly gained traction, triggering heated commentary from Nigerians who questioned why someone facing such allegations is holding public office in Tinubu’s cabinet.

A user, Jeremy Whyte, commented, “Someday, they, including Wike, will all come to judgment. Justice may be delayed but, never denied.”

Another commenter, KO Richard, added, “Verily, verily I say unto you, Old thieves have passed away and old thieves have become new creatures in APC.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had in 2015 flagged the suspicious withdrawal of over N117 billion in cash from Rivers State’s account using more than 50 cheques. The investigation, according to reports at the time, did not lead to prosecution, leaving the case open-ended.
