A Nigerian netizen, Ilemona, has stirred online outrage after questioning Tinubu’s failure to visit Yelewata in Benue State during his recent condolence tour, despite other prominent figures like activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) and Pastor Dr. Paul Enenche successfully making the trip.
Tinubu, while addressing journalists and residents, had claimed he aborted his trip to Yelewata due to poor weather and deplorable road conditions. In his words, “I aborted my visit to Yelewata because of the rain, flood, bad roads, and particularly, seeing the ruins and the carnage on camera, it served enough to take the decision.”
Reacting to this justification, Ilemona posted a sharp criticism on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “VDM made it to Yelewata. Dr. Paul Enenche made it to Yelewata. But the President said he cannot make it due to bad roads and rain. APC is a curse.”
The comment quickly went viral, reflecting a broader sentiment of frustration with the Tinubu-led administration’s handling of the Benue killings and its general response to national tragedies.
Tinubu’s failure to reach the affected community has been widely condemned, especially following reports that children stood in the rain and residents lined the streets in anticipation of his arrival. Critics have described the excuse as tone-deaf, arguing that other individuals managed to navigate the same terrain with no official escort or presidential resources.
This latest backlash follows days of heavy criticism over the government’s silence and delayed reaction to the massacre in Benue. Many Nigerians, including prominent voices online, accuse Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of showing insensitivity to the suffering of citizens, particularly those in conflict-prone regions.
As the controversy lingers, citizens continue to demand accountability, not just for the killings, but for what they describe as a pattern of neglect, spin, and disregard for human lives by those in power.
