Corrupt NFF Officials Steal Athletes’ Allowances, Distribute Substandard Kits, Divert Prize Money, and Loot Stadium Funds — Serah Ibrahim

A social activist, Serah Ibrahim, has decried the deep-rooted corruption plaguing Nigeria’s sports sector, accusing officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) of stealing funds meant for athletes and mismanaging resources.

In a post on X, Serah Ibrahim lamented that despite the dedication of Nigerian athletes, footballers, and sportsmen across various fields, the system continues to fail them due to corrupt leadership.

“Corruption has eaten too deep into Nigeria and it’s affecting every sector. The corruption in the NFF is sickening. Our athletes, footballers, basketballers, every sportsman and woman in Nigeria continue to give their best despite being failed by a corrupt sports leadership,” she said

Serah alleged that officials within the federation steal players’ allowances, distribute substandard kits, divert prize money earned through hard work, and even loot funds allocated for the development of stadiums and sporting equipment.

She described the situation as “shameful for a country blessed with so much talent,” calling for accountability and urgent reform within Nigeria’s sports administration.

The remarks came amid fresh allegations of corruption in the NFF following FIFA’s recent showcase of the ₦1.7 billion Kebbi Stadium.

The global football body updated its X (Twitter) header image to feature the facility — a move that triggered outrage among Nigerians who described the project as substandard and questioned how such a stadium could cost over ₦1.7 billion.

Several Nigerians accused football officials of embezzlement and said the incident further exposed the decay and lack of transparency in sports governance across the country.

As public anger continues to mount, the NFF has yet to release an official statement addressing the controversy.
