Nigeria’s Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, is reportedly owed over three months of salary and bonuses, estimated at more than $165,000, just two weeks before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The revelation was made by Nigerian sports journalist Oluwashina Okeleji on X formerly Twitter
Chelle, a Malian who led the Eagles to the 2026 World Cup playoffs, has yet to formally complain to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) about the unpaid wages.

The delay comes amid a long history of payment issues at the federation, which admitted in 2023 to owing coaches months of salaries.
Similar disputes were also reported under former coach Gernot Rohr in 2019, often blamed on funding shortfalls and administrative delays.
The unpaid wages pose a potential morale risk for the Super Eagles squad, as past financial disputes with the NFF have led to player boycotts and disrupted preparations ahead of major tournaments.
With AFCON approaching, the unresolved salary issue adds pressure on Chelle and the team ahead of Nigeria’s continental campaign.
