On Monday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) unveiled Finidi George, the former Ajax star, as the new coach of the Super Eagles.
Although Finidi’s appointment took place two weeks ago, the specifics of his deal remained undisclosed until the unveiling event. At the ceremony, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and Sports Minister John Enoh presented Finidi as the new Eagles boss, where he formally signed his contract.
The NFF also disclosed the support team for Finidi, including his former Super Eagles teammate Daniel Amokachi and Benjamin James, a former Shooting Stars player based in Germany.

Amidst these announcements, there are speculations about the duration of Finidi’s contract. Football analyst and journalist Osasu Obayiuawana hinted at a one-year contract for Finidi to lead the Super Eagles in their upcoming campaign.
He wrote on his X handle on Monday, “Wait a minute… @FinidiGeorge_FG was only given a ONE YEAR CONTRACT by @thenff to manage the @NGSuperEagles? Is this a joke or what?”
The incoming Super Eagles coach is anticipated to continue the groundwork for the pivotal 2026 World Cup qualifiers versus South Africa and Benin, scheduled for later in June.
