Abia: Otti Sparks Investor Interest As National Infrastructure Corporation Eyes Abia Investments

The Nigeria Infrastructure Corporation has signalled its interest in partnering with the Abia state government to bolster infrastructure development in the region.

During a meeting with Governor Alex Otti in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA, the managing director of the corporation, Lazarus Angbazo, emphasized their readiness to collaborate with the government. Angbazo described the corporation as a government-backed entity with a private management structure, aimed at complementing infrastructure initiatives.

Highlighting their broad mandate covering power, energy transmission, agriculture, and industrialization, Angbazo expressed the corporation’s eagerness to contribute to the government’s vision of revitalizing Aba as a leading industrial center.

Commending Governor Otti’s leadership, Angbazo remarked on the credibility it has brought to governance in Abia.

In response, Governor Otti affirmed the state’s willingness to engage in partnerships, particularly in critical economic sectors such as agriculture and power. Otti disclosed ongoing discussions with Geometric Power Limited to leverage excess power from the Aba Integrated Power Project (AIPP) to enhance power supply in Umuahia and its environs, a move he noted had received positive attention.

Governor Otti stressed the importance of collaboration in governance, stating, “So, for us, we feel we need to attract as many partners as possible, that is why we are deliberate in infrastructure. We know that when you secure the place and provide infrastructure, then investors will come.”

Addressing the power situation, Otti highlighted the significant impact of the current power supply from Geometric Power Limited to Aba and expressed optimism about further improvements with the commissioning of the second turbine.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to improving power supply and fostering a conducive environment for business growth in Abia. Otti also assured efforts were underway to address the power challenges in the remaining eight Local Government Areas not covered by the AIPP.

The meeting between the Nigeria Infrastructure Corporation and the Abia state government signifies a potential boost to infrastructure development in the region. With both parties expressing eagerness for collaboration, the future holds promising prospects for economic growth and industrialization in Abia.
