The 7 Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri has confirmed the apprehension of a soldier allegedly connected to the tragic killing of a truck driver at a checkpoint along the Maiduguri – Dikwa- Gamboru road.

The incident, stemming from a dispute between the soldier and the driver, transpired on Boxing Day, resulting in a blockade of the crucial border road.

The outraged response from commercial drivers, who protested the shooting, left numerous travellers stranded.

Lt. Col. A.Y. Jingina, 7 Division Public Relations Officer, verified the soldier’s arrest in a statement today.

In response to a complaint filed by the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Jingina assured a thorough investigation and emphasized the Division’s steadfast commitment to ensuring justice for the deceased’s family.

“The Division has assured both the family of the deceased and the NURTW of its commitment to ensure that justice is served to the family and no stone would be left unturned in this regard.

“In the Division’s effort towards ensuring that the family of the victim gets justice, the soldier in question has been arrested, and an investigation has commenced.
