Nigerian Army Arrests Soldiers Involved in Torturing Civilian Captured in Viral Video

The Headquarters of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, has taken swift action following the circulation of a viral video depicting the torture of an innocent civilian by two of its personnel in Rivers State.

Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, confirmed the arrests in a statement.

Recalls that two personnel of the Nigerian Army were involved in the brutality of a civilian in Rivers State in a viral video making the rounds on social media.

Expressing dismay over the unprofessional conduct captured in the viral video, the Army spokesperson emphasized that the identified soldiers involved in the incident had been apprehended.

The spokesperson for 6 Division Army Public Relations stated, “The Nigerian Army views with utmost dismay the unprofessional conduct of two of its personnel involved in the brutality of a civilian in Rivers State, as shown in a viral video circulating on social media.

“It is instructive to mention that the soldiers involved in that unprofessional conduct have been clearly identified and arrested,” he added.

Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 6 Division, Nigerian Army/Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, has ordered an immediate comprehensive investigation into the matter.

The statement assured the public that appropriate sanctions would be imposed on those found culpable.

The Army urged the public to continue providing credible information on such incidents, emphasizing its commitment to responsiveness.

“Well-meaning members of the public are encouraged to continue to provide credible information on such unprofessional conducts, as the division is poised to be more responsive to the public.

“This is one unfortunate isolated case that would be expeditiously dealt with,” the statement emphasised.
