Nigerian boxers displayed an outstanding performance at the African Games 2023, dominating the boxing event and securing a remarkable tally of eight gold medals.
Among the 11 Nigerian boxers who competed at the 13th African Games, all returned home adorned with medals, showcasing Nigeria’s prowess in the sport.
In a spectacular display of skill and determination, 10 Nigerian boxers advanced to the final rounds across various weight categories.
Ultimately, only two settled for silver medals. Adams Olaore claimed the gold medal in the men’s 92+kg category, while Jacinta Umunnakwe, Blessing Orakwe, and Cynthia Ogunsemilore triumphed in the women’s 81kg, 70kg, and 60kg categories, respectively.

Adding to Nigeria’s triumph were Patricia Mbata, Omole Dolapo, and Joy Nene Ojo, who clinched gold in the women’s 75kg, men’s 57kg, and women’s 54kg categories, respectively.
Despite falling short of the gold, Shukurat Kareem and Zainab Adeshina demonstrated exceptional skill, securing silver medals in the women’s 54kg and 50kg categories.
