The Nigerian women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has achieved a historic milestone by rising to eighth place in the latest FIBA world rankings, released on Thursday.
This notable advancement, moving the team up four positions, marks the first time an African basketball team—whether men’s or women’s—has entered the top 10 globally.
The team’s ascent in the latest FIBA world rankings follows a commendable performance at the Paris Olympics, where they made significant strides.
D’Tigress secured their first Olympic victory in 20 years by defeating Australia. Although they faced a setback against France, the team rebounded strongly by defeating Canada.
