Outrage as Niger Speaker Plans to Marry Off 100 Females Orphaned by Banditry as Constituency Empowerment Project

The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Barrister Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, has revealed plans to marry off 100 female orphans who lost their parents in banditry attacks in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State this month.

The Speaker, representing Mariga Constituency, has pledged to cover the dowries for the brides and has ensured all necessary materials for the marriages are procured.

While he did not specify the age range of the girls, he mentioned that they were selected from a pool of 170 names submitted.

This initiative, part of his constituency empowerment project, aims to alleviate the plight of the less privileged.

Governor Mohammed Umar Bago and Emir Mohammed Barau of Kontagora will act as guardians for the girls.

The Kano State Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, is expected to attend the event scheduled for May 24 in Bangi, Mariga’s headquarters.
