Nigeria Could Have Happened to Me If You Hadn’t Spoken Out — Dele Farotimi Breaks Down in Tears, Thanks Nigerians for Saving His Life

Human rights lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi was overcome with emotion earlier today as he recounted how the collective voice of Nigerians came to his rescue when arrested by the Nigerian police.

While speaking on X Farotimi reflected on the unity and humanity displayed by those who stood up for him, transcending ethnic and religious divisions.

Appreciating Nigerians who spoke out and condemned his violent arrest by the Nigerian police based on a petition by Mr Babalola, Mr Farotimi said “Because you spoke, Nigeria couldn’t happen to me,” he declared.

“We stopped being human because we became Nigerians,” he lamented, his voice heavy with emotion. “They divided us, and we fell for it. But because you wouldn’t see me as a Yoruba man, you spoke for me. Because you wouldn’t see me as a Christian, you spoke for me.”

Farotimi repeatedly emphasized the power of a united voice by nigerians that stood by him, expressing gratitude for the collective action that shielded him from a potentially dire fate when he was arrested by the nigerian police force.
