General Abdourahmane Tchiani, military ruler of Niger Republic, has once again accused Nigeria of conspiring with France and the United States to fund and support terrorism in his country.
In a three-hour national broadcast aired over the weekend via Radio-Télévision du Niger (RTN), Tchiani alleged that a high-level secret meeting took place in Abuja in December 2024 with the aim of orchestrating attacks against the Nigerien state.
According to him, “a Nigerian man named Mohammed Mohammed, along with Nigeria’s ex-intelligence chief’s deputy, Shehu Barde,” hosted the closed-door meeting which lasted from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Tchiani claimed the gathering involved CIA operatives, Nigerian officials, and Nigerien exiles living abroad since the military took over power on July 26, 2023. The discussions, he alleged, revolved around supplying weapons to terrorist groups to destabilise Niger.
He further stated that in January 2025, delegations from Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, and other West African states arrived in Abuja to assess the fallout of the alleged plot after their earlier efforts failed.

The military leader accused Nigeria, Benin, France, China, Algeria, and the U.S. of collectively undermining the security of Niger and its Alliance of Sahel States (AES) partners.
Tchiani’s latest outburst follows a renewed wave of deadly attacks in Niger’s Tahoua and Dosso regions, where over 100 soldiers were recently killed. In response, the junta leader used his televised address to reassure citizens of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts. “God is the ultimate planner and is by our side,” he said defiantly, insisting that Niger remains standing despite what he described as coordinated international sabotage.
In December last year, Tchiani made similar accusations, alleging that France was working with militant groups in the Lake Chad Basin and claimed Nigeria was aware of those dealings.
