Nigeria Is Difficult to Govern, but Nigerians Are Unaware; I Look Better, Healthier Now Than When I Was President – Buhari

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has described Nigeria as a challenging country to govern, noting that many Nigerians are unaware of the complexities involved in leading the nation

Buhari made this revelation in Hausa during the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus meeting held at the Presidential Banquet Hall of the Government House in Katsina State on Saturday.

The meeting was organized ahead of the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

Speaking at the event, Buhari reiterated that he did not corruptly enrich himself while serving as Nigeria’s president. He described Nigeria as a complex and challenging country to govern, adding that many citizens do not fully comprehend the administrative difficulties involved in leading the nation.

“Nigeria is a difficult country to govern, but most Nigerians are unaware. You will not understand the complexities of leadership and the country itself until you find yourself in the administrative position of the country,” he stated.

Reflecting on his current lifestyle, Buhari disclosed that he owns only three houses—one in Daura, Katsina State, and two in Kaduna State. He added that one of the Kaduna properties is rented out, providing him with income for his daily needs.

“After my eight years as a civil president, I have only three houses; one in Daura and two in Kaduna. I have given one out for renting where I get money for feeding,” he said.

The former president also expressed satisfaction with his improved health since leaving office. “I look much better and healthier now than when I was the president of the country. Anybody that sees me now acknowledges that I look better than before,” Buhari noted.

He further remarked that despite widespread criticism from citizens, most people fail to understand the difficulties faced by leaders during and after their tenure.

The APC caucus meeting in Katsina provided a platform for Buhari to reflect on his time in office and share his insights on governance.
