Nigeria Is Rapidly Becoming One Of The Most Dangerous Places On Earth To Follow Christ, We Must Continue To Defend Liberty And Uphold Religious Freedom — US Congress

The US House Appropriations has said the situation of Christians in Nigeria has reached a critical point where it could no longer keep mum, with widespread violence, kidnappings, and killings targeting the community.

The US House Appropriations Committee sounded the alarm on X after Congressman Robert Aderholt had highlighted the crisis in a recent roundtable discussion.

According to reports, over 50,000 Christians have been killed in Nigeria since 2009, with many more forced to flee their homes.

Boko Haram and other extremist groups have been responsible for the violence, which has also seen churches destroyed and desecrated.

In a post on X, House Appropriations who expressed dissatisfaction with the situation said “Nigeria is rapidly becoming one of the most dangerous places on Earth to follow Christ, we can’t ignore this crisis, appropriators will continue to defend liberty and uphold religious freedom across the globe.”

Congressman Robert Aderholt in the statement on X also stressed the urgent need to stand firmly with Nigerian Christians communities and all persecuted believers worldwide.  

The Congressman’s comments have been echoed by human rights groups and other international leaders, who are calling for increased support and protection for Christians in Nigeria.
