Nigeria Misses Out at 66th Grammy Awards, Despite Nominations

Despite a remarkable achievement in garnering a record number of nominations at the 66th Grammy Awards, Nigerian artists faced unexpected outcomes as none of the nominees secured a win in their respective categories.

Nigeria’s representation at the Grammy Awards included an impressive 10 nominations, with particular attention given to the inaugural Best African Music Performance category.

In this category, five Nigerian artists secured four out of five spots, marking a significant presence on the global stage. However, the anticipation and excitement surrounding their nominations turned to disappointment as none of the Nigerian nominees clinched an award.

The award for Best Global Music Album went to Shakti for his outstanding work ‘This Moment,’ while the Best Global Music Performance category was claimed by Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and Zakir for their song ‘Pashto.’

In the closely watched Best African Music Performance category, Tyla emerged as the winner, triumphing over formidable contenders such as Davido, Burna Boy, Asake Olamide, and Ayra Starr.
