In a move to halt the Nigeria Labour Congress’s (NLC) scheduled nationwide protest against economic challenges, the Nigeria Police Force has sealed the NLC office in Lagos State.
The protest, set for February 27 and 28, aimed to address widespread hunger and hardship faced by Nigerians.
Armed police personnel were stationed in front of the Nigeria Labour Congress headquarters in the Yaba area of Lagos State, as revealed by activist and national coordinator of the Education Rights Campaign (ERC), Hassan Taiwo, who shared an image on Monday morning.
According to Taiwo, a few comrades were sealed off in the building, uncertain about the developments awaiting them.
The Nigeria Labour Congress had issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Nigerian government regarding the prevalent hardship, leading to the organization of the planned protest.
Despite warnings from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), urging the cancellation of the protest, the NLC remained resolute in its decision to proceed.

Accusing the government of preparing to attack peaceful rallies and alleging the involvement of certain groups in causing violence against protestors, the NLC emphasised its right to peaceful protest.
The organization warned against suppressing dissent or inflicting violence on peaceful protestors and expressed concern over potential state-sponsored terror deployment.
Despite these concerns, the NLC remains determined to move forward with the scheduled protest.
