“Tough Times Don’t Last Forever” Doesn’t Apply to Nigeria’s Brand of Tough Times Under Anti-People Policies — Sowore

Human rights activist and #RevolutionNow convener Omoyele Sowore, has once again highlighted the worsening economic challenges Nigerians are facing, with no apparent hope for relief.

Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), stated on Tuesday that the common phrase, “Tough times don’t last,” seems not to hold true for the Nigerian people.

Sowore made this comment while reflecting on how Femi Adesina, the former Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, once used the adage to reassure Nigerians during Buhari’s administration amidst widespread outcry over the nation’s dire economic state.

According to Sowore, the phrase “Tough times don’t last” holds little meaning for those enduring Nigeria’s distinct brand of hardship, especially under leaders who implement economic policies that undermine the well-being of the people.

On his verified X account on Tuesday, Sowore while quoting Adesina, “Be patient, tough times don’t last forever,” wrote, “Buhari’s crazy former Special Adviser Adesina to Nigerians!

“Me: Anyone that tells you tough times don’t last has never experienced Nigeria’s brand of tough times.”

Many Nigerians have labeled Buhari’s tenure as one of the worst in the nation’s history, pointing to widespread economic decline, escalating insecurity, soaring inflation, high unemployment, and a glaring lack of accountability in governance.

Critics contend that these challenges deteriorated significantly during his administration.
